⛰️ Highland spotsMoldoveanu is the highest peak in Romania. It is located in the Fagaras Mountains, its altitude is 8346 feet (2 544 meters). This destination brings together many tourists every year who dream of climbing to the top of the Peak. Because of high peaks around it, it is only visible from the ridge of the Fagaras massif. Many other peaks of the Fagaras mountain range are visible from the Fagaras depression, located in the north of the massif. The nearest town to Moldoveanu is Victoria, to the north. The nearest peak has a slightly lower altitude: it is the Vistea Mare peak 8300 feet (2,527 meters). The south side of Moldoveanu Peak can be reached from the northwest of Campulung, or from the northeast of Curtea de Arges. The ascent of the mountain peak does not offer any major difficulties, despite its high altitude. Crossing the last meters of this hike is absolutely fabulous, on the ridge of the crest, which offers 360° landscapes on the valleys of both sides of the mountain range. For anyone who is a bit sporty and wants an active stay in Romania, we recommend you the ascent of Mount Moldoveanu. For the others, the Transfagaras road will satisfy you as well! The "bad valley" is ironically the shortest and easiest route to reach the Moldoveanu summit in only four hours, with short breaks. In total, the round trip will take you only one day. The path starts in a very picturesque mountain landscape with a sheepfold and in the distance the Cascada Mare waterfall dominates the landscape. On your way you will pass by the marsh Galeata Vaii Rele, and especially by the beautiful glacial lake Iezerul Triangular. This is one of the most popular but also one of the most difficult routes, requiring no less than 9 hours to reach the summit and just as much to return. Of course, you can cut the trip in two and spend the night at Podragu hut. Moldoveanu is the ideal destination for those who love hiking and breathtaking mountain landscapes, hiking is accessible to all levels so do not hesitate.
